Presentation Description:

This presentation is geared towards the beginner or intermediate level eating disorder treatment professional whose practice may not be solely eating disorder focused.  The presentation will discuss common pitfalls and complications in treating the eating disorder patient in an outpatient setting for both multi-disciplinary teams and individual providers from the perspective of the treatment team leader. Ideas for how to keep open communication between treatment team members, how to educate treatment team members if they are unfamiliar with eating disorder concerns, how to set treatment boundaries, and how to deal with medical concerns will be discussed. Interventions including zone contracts for outpatient eligibility, keeping family members in contact with all treatment team members, setting parameters to make sure that clients are medically stable, and how to maneuver insurance concerns for different levels of care will be addressed.
