About the Presenter:
For the past 28 years, Quinn Nystrom has been sharing her and her brother’s stories of living with type 1 diabetes to over 300,000 people across North America. She is a published author of the book, “If I Kiss You, Will I Get Diabetes?”
In 2017, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton appointed her to serve on the board for the Minnesota Council on Disabilities. She leads efforts to fight the high costs of insulin in America. She has worked with four Presidential administrations on how to lower healthcare costs for people with diabetes. Nystrom has been featured nationally on XM Radio, Newsweek, Washington Post, CBS Morning Show & Evening News, PBS Newshour, Glamour Magazine, Reader’s Digest and The Learning Channel (TLC). Description of Presentation:
Diabetes is a chronic illness with no cure. Even though the lifesaving treatment of insulin was discovered 100 years ago, Americans continue to struggle with affording healthcare and treatments, resulting in poorer physical and mental health outcomes. In this webinar, learn about the types of diabetes and their prevalence, current treatments and barriers, and action steps to incorporate in patient care.
Learning Objectives:
Based on the content of the workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Explain how people with diabetes are more likely than those without to experience increased depression and anxiety.
2. Discuss how people with diabetes are 2.5 times more likely to be diagnosed with an eating disorder, as well as a heightened suicide risk.
3. List four best practices mental health clinicians can utilize in a clinical setting to help improve patient outcomes.
