Almost everyone at some time in their life faces challenges, disappointments, and discouragements. Our ability to manage and overcome difficult circumstances depends largely on our ability to cope. Awareness of stressful situations, people, environments, and conditions, as well as understanding one’s personal strengths and weaknesses in dealing with these situations, are crucial to our ability to handle challenges in a healthy and productive manner. In addition to this awareness, it is vital to have a wide variety of coping skills and tools that are readily available and effective in times of stress.
This week’s Recreation and Experiential Therapy groups will explore many different avenues for coping with challenges. Through music, movement, leisure education, outings, and art, patients will have opportunities to learn and experience a variety of healthy coping skills. Emphasis will be placed on preparing for life after discharge.
