About the Presenter:

Dr. Hawkins is a clinical psychologist and is the Chief Executive Officer at Center for Change. She is a specialist in eating disorders and body image and has provided clinical expertise at Center for Change since 1999. She is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (Supervisor), has published several articles, and presents regularly at national and regional conferences.

Description of Presentation:

This training explores the emotional and clinical complexities of eating disorder recovery from both personal and professional perspectives. Dr. Nicole Hawkins integrates her lived experience with decades of clinical expertise to examine what makes recovery possible and sustainable. Using the metaphor of jumping off a cliff and packing a parachute, she walks through 10 essential interventions that empower clients to navigate recovery with support, structure, and hope. The presentation highlights medical and neurological factors, social and environmental stressors, and practical tools that outpatient clinicians can use to help their clients build trust and land safely. Recovery may require a leap—but no one has to jump alone.

Learning Objectives:

Based on the content of the workshop participants will be able to:

1. Identify 10 therapeutic interventions that support clients in eating disorder recovery.

2. Describe the neurological, environmental, and social influences that complicate recovery.
