It is imperative that dietitians\, therapists\, psychiatry providers\, and medical providers working with these patients recognize risk factors and early warning signs of these conditions and work together to assess and treat these individuals. This presentation will address refeeding syndrome and pseudo-Bartter syndrome in terms of risk factors\, symptoms\, prevention\, and treatment. Basic pathophysiology will be addressed as well as the potential adverse effects. Case studies will provide clinicians with realistic examples of how patients can be endangered by these and other conditions related to eating disorder treatment. She is a specialist in eating disorders and body image and has provided clinical expertise at Center for Change since 1999. Dr. Hawkins developed a comprehensive body image program that focuses on the media\, diet industry\, plastic surgery\, childhood issues\, and learning to appreciate one’s body\, and she leads these groups for the Inpatient and Residential patients at Center for Change. She is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (Supervisor)\, has published several articles\, and presents regularly at national and regional conferences. \nDescription of Presentation:\nThis training explores the emotional and clinical complexities of eating disorder recovery from both personal and professional perspectives. Dr. Nicole Hawkins integrates her lived experience with decades of clinical expertise to examine what makes recovery possible and sustainable. Using the metaphor of jumping off a cliff and packing a parachute\, she walks through 10 essential interventions that empower clients to navigate recovery with support\, structure\, and hope. Samantha has worked in various mental health settings\, from assisting in research projects at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore\, Maryland to conducting ABA therapy and group therapy with autistic kids in Salt Lake City. Samantha began working at Center for Change in 2014 and is extremely passionate about working with those who have eating disorders\, anxiety\, depression\, and trauma. She is committed to advocating for her patients and customizing treatment to meet their current needs. Samantha works from an empowerment-based model\, addressing feminist and multicultural issues with an ACT framework. Samantha is trained in EMDR for conducting trauma therapy and is Gottman Level-One trained for conducting couple’s therapy. \nHaley Christensen\, MEd\, RD\, CD is a registered dietitian specializing in eating disorder treatment\, grounded in the principles of Health at Every Size® and Intuitive Eating. As the Lead Dietitian at Center for Change’s Salt Lake City campus\, she manages meals\, snacks\, and other logistical components of the nutrition program for PHP and IOP levels of care. She also provides individual\, evidence-based nutrition counseling and education for PHP\, IOP\, and outpatient clients. Haley holds a Master’s in Health Education and Promotion with an emphasis in Eating Disorder Treatment from Plymouth State University. Center for Change maintains responsibility for this program and its content. \n       \n  \nAbout the Presenter:\nDr. Reid Robison was born in Chicago\, but grew up in Toronto\, Canada.  He completed undergraduate studies in Neuroscience at Brigham Young University\, studied anatomy at Cambridge\,  and then went on to medical school at the University of Utah where he obtained both his MD and MBA degrees simultaneously. After residency training in Psychiatry at the University of Utah\, Dr. Robison went on to complete fellowship training in Genetics. He started his own genetics company\, where he still plays an active role on the board\, and continues to share his vision for personalized medicine whenever he gets the chance. Dr. Robison has also been active in humanitarian pursuits and was part of the University of Utah’s Global Health Initiative where he made medical trips to post-quake Haiti\, refugee camps along the Thai-Burma border\, and rural Ghana. He also founded the Polizzi Clinic\, a free mental health clinic based in Salt Lake City\, Utah.  Dr. Robison has served as Medical Director of Psychiatry at Intermountain Medical Center\, Intermountain’s flagship hospital\, providing psych consults to the ER and medical floors\, and more recently worked in inpatient psychiatry at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo\, UT. \nDr. Robison is a firm believer that inside every person\, no matter where they are in their journey\, is an inextinguishable light\, with the capability for a full human life.  Dr. Robison says\, “Not all wounds are visible\, and everyone has their unique struggle. Pain is real…but so is hope.” \nDescription of Presentation:\nAvoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) represents one of the most heterogeneous and under-recognized eating disorders. In this webinar\, we’ll examine ARFID through a clinician’s lens—from DSM-5 diagnostic criteria to the latest insights into neurobiology\, etiology\, treatment targets\, and therapeutic modalities. She is the attending provider for the medical team on the adult Residential Treatment Center at the Center for Change. Over the years\, Taralyn has witnessed the very significant harm inflicted on the body by different eating disorder behaviors. She is passionate about keeping her patients safe\, making eating disorder treatment as comfortable as possible\, and educating her patients and their families about the physical consequences of these illnesses. \nDescription of Presentation:\nThis presentation addresses the physical complications of different eating disorder behaviors experienced by individuals without low body weight. Case studies will review common complications related to cardiac\, GI\, and other body systems. The risk factors for\, and pathophysiology of\, refeeding syndrome and pseudo-Bartter syndrome will be reviewed. Strategies for therapists and dietitians to help patients receive appropriate care will be discussed. \nLearning Objectives:\nBased on the content of the workshop participants will be able to: \n1. Center for Change maintains responsibility for this program and its content. \n           \n  \nAbout the Presenter:\nReid Robison\, MD MBA\, is a board-certified psychiatrist and well-known researcher in the fields of psychopharmacology\, eating disorders\, and psychedelic medicine. He has been medical director at Center for Change since 2017\, and is also co-founder of Cedar Psychiatry\,  now a part of Numinus\, that offers evidence-based\, innovative mental health care more accessible. Reid grew the clinic network to 4 clinics in Utah\, and supervised the clinicians doing over 75\,000 mental health visits each year\, and over 12\,000 ketamine or spravato sessions per year. \nReid obtained his first grant to study ketamine back in 2010\, and around that time led the Utah site for a pivotal IV ketamine study for treatment-resistant depression in collaboration with Janssen. Reid has led over 250 clinical trials in psychiatry\, and is currently senior principal investigator at Numinus\, and has DEA authorization on his schedule I license to study psilocybin\, LSD\, DMT and other compounds. Reid previously served as coordinating investigator for the MAPS-sponsored MDMA-assisted psychotherapy study of eating disorders. Rebekah has been a dietitian in the field of eating disorders for twenty-five years. She first worked at Center for Change in 1998 and was fortunate to be able to introduce the concept of intuitive eating into the treatment of eating disorders. She has lived experience from both the patient’s and family members’ perspectives. Over the past twenty-four years\, Rebekah has worked in all levels of care in Utah and California. She has spoken at several eating disorder conferences and enjoys creating books and manuals. She likes learning and is currently in a master’s program for Marriage and Family Therapy. \nDescription of Presentation:\nMore research is needed regarding nutrition interventions in the treatment of eating disorders. This lack of data can make treating clients using evidence-based practice complicated. He has extensive experience using modalities such as Radically Open Dialectal Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT)\, Internal Family Systems (IFS)\, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapy. He started his career doing general outpatient work\, then opted to specialize in treating eating disorders. He is currently the clinical director of the adult residential eating disorder treatment unit at Center for Change in Orem\, Utah. \nDescription of Presentation:\nEating disorders rarely occur in isolation but are often accompanied by other disorders such as depression\, anxiety\, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. This can complicate the treatment process and leave questions about how to target multiple disorders in an effective and ethical manner. In this presentation\, the prevalence of co-occurring disorders in eating disorder populations will be reviewed along with strategies for successful intervention.

Allison enjoys working with adolescents\, athletes\, and individuals that struggle in their relationship with exercise. Her therapeutic approach is a combination of Adlerian\, CBT\, DBT\, and ACT. Allison also loves to include art in her sessions to help clients express their feelings in creative ways. In her free time she enjoys painting\, running\, traveling\, and spending time with her two cats. \nDescription of Presentation:\nEating disorder professionals face high levels of burnout due the nature of eating disorder care. Therapists are often taught ways to avoid burnout\, however\, it is becoming more and more difficult to avoid what often feels inevitable. In this presentation\, we will examine the role of acceptance\, rather than avoidance\, of burnout related symptoms and identify ways to respond on an individual and macro level scale through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy principles.
