Anorexic - Center for Change

You have probably heard of the term anorexic, but you may not know exactly what it means, even if you are one. Being an anorexic means that you suffer from anorexia nervosa, commonly referred to as anorexia. Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by either not eating at all or restricting your intake of food for the purpose of losing weight or staying thin. Moreover, being an anorexic is defined by an almost obsessive fear of becoming “fat” so you do many things to avoid fat. You might avoid situations where you have to eat in public, you may weigh your self frequently, and your body (shape and weight) is always on your mind. You may even purge, exercise excessively, and use diuretics in order to stay thin. All of these things define an anorexic.

If you are an anorexic, you need to seek help immediately, as you are leading yourself down a path to death. All is not lost though. There is hope and healing in your future if you call us, Center for Change, at 1-888-224-8250 today. When you are ready to regain control over your life, you can enroll in our eating disorder clinic, which is located at the base of the 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos, in the beautiful Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains in Orem, Utah.

The Dangers of Being an Anorexic

Being an anorexic can lead to many health related dangers. While, we, Center for Change, do not want to scare you half to death, facing the harsh reality of your situation can lead you to seek help for your eating disorder. Being an anorexic can cause many issues, some less severe than others. Some of the less severe issues of anorexia are excessive growth of body hair, your menstrual cycle may stop, and you will probably have low blood pressure, a slow heart rate, and low energy. If you have a more severe case of anorexia, you may suffer from an imbalance of electrolytes, you could lose the ability to have children, and you are at risk for heart and cardiovascular system failure. Moreover, if you are an anorexic, no matter how mild your case is, you are leading yourself down a path that will ultimately lead to death.

Knowing how severely being an anorexic can affect your health may cause you to want to seek help. At Center for Change, we want to offer you this help. We want to offer you the hope of a brighter, healthier future. However, to get help you must first seek help by calling us today at 1-888-224-8250.

Anorexic Treatment Progression at Center for Change

Just as each different eating disorder clinic will have different treatment strategies and programs, each different eating disorder clinic will also offer different levels of treatments. However, at Center for Change, we basically offer 4 levels of anorexic treatment progression, unless you require hospitalization. The first, most intense part of your anorexic program will be your inpatient care. This is the time when you are under constant supervision, and the first two weeks of this is for evaluation and assessment to see what treatments you need and the severity of your anorexia. As you progress, you will enter into your residential treatments. You are allowed family visitation, many experiential therapies, such as art and spirituality therapy, and you are continuing to meet with your physician and dietitian. Next, you have an option of either half or full day transitional aftercare programs, meant to help you adjust to living at home again. You are still coming to the center, but more as a way of continued support and treatments. Finally, after you have successfully completed the anorexic treatments above, you are ready for your outpatient treatments. These are just to help you continue on your path of anorexic recovery.
