Eating disorders are complex, intensely personal illnesses
which can damage a woman physically, emotionally,
and spiritually. Center for Change works to heal
the whole person, not simply add pounds or temporarily
change behavior.
Our approach to recovery is based on the belief that
eating-disordered patterns are learned. Those learned
patterns can be changed - permanently. Our multidisciplinary
approach leads to a healthier, more balanced way of
living, while restoring a sense of control and peace
in your life.
At Center for Change, we believe in a continuum
of care which offers decreasing steps in the intensity
of care which facilitates a step-by-step transition
in recovery, preparing each individual for eventual
return to a full and satisfying life with friends
and loved ones.
Our complete and comprehensive program includes:
Acute Inpatient Care
Acute Inpatient Care starts with an extensive evaluation
and assessment of each patient's strengths, struggles,
and needs for recovery. Treatment plans from that
assessment lead to multidisciplinary approaches and
treatment which facilitate medical and psychological
stabilization and provide specialized structure and
therapy for managing eating disorder symptoms and
patterns.
Residential Care
Residential Care provides ongoing structure and
treatment which improves medical and emotional stability
over time. Therapeutic interventions continue along
with increasing regular life activities, quality
education, and emphasis on individual responsibility
and integration into social, educational, recreational,
and family environments. Discharge and aftercare
planning are a critical part of maintaining recovery
gains.
Transitional Aftercare
These programs, after residential care, include
Full and Partial-day programs, Assisted Apartment
Living, and the Life Skills Transitional Aftercare
Program. Post-discharge aftercare augments traditional
outpatient treatment with individually designed intensive
aftercare which focuses on preventing relapse, setting
goals, facing fears, and accomplishing specific social,
vocational, and educational tasks. Practical application
of learned skills is a primary emphasis in these
programs.
Outpatient Services - A Team Approach
Following this intensive treatment, those individuals
leaving the proximity of the Center are returned
to or referred to quality practitioners of medicine,
psychotherapy, and dietary counseling who will help
them maintain their progress and continue in their
recovery. Outpatient therapy for eating disorders
at the Center requires a patient to see a physician,
a therapist, and a dietitian to ensure that multidisciplinary
team treatment takes place. Patients and their families
are also encouraged to attend the Family Support
Group and Outpatient Therapy Group.
Because all of us at the Center are fully committed
to recovery for those who come here, we require patients,
and their families, to commit to a recommended minimum
length of stay in our programs. Recovery from a severe
eating disorder and related emotional illness requires
significant commitment and follow through.
