CareTech / Pscyh Tech (Part-time / On-call)
Accepting Applications/Resumes
Center for Change is seeking part-time, on-call female Care Technicians to assist the clinical and nursing staff in providing secure, safe, and supportive treatment to inpatients suffering from anorexia and bulimia. Part-time on-call staff will have a regularly scheduled shift of 6 to 12 hours / week, plus on-call shifts. Current on-call staff are averaging 25 - 30 hours / week. (As the Center prepares for expansion, opportunities to move from Part-time/On-call status to regular part- and full-time shifts will occur frequently.)
Center for Change is a 24-hour healthcare facility with both full- and part-time staff who cover regularly scheduled shifts. Regularly scheduled part-time shifts are 18 to 24 hours/week. On-call Care Techs are scheduled for a regular shift of 6 - 12 hours each week and in addition will be called in to fill a variety of shifts around the clock when other staff are ill, on vacation, or otherwise unable to fill shifts. As on-call staff, hours will vary from 6 to 40 hours per week, but on average fall in the range of 15 to 20 hours per week. This is an excellent entry-level position for individuals who would like to gain experience in the mental health field and for students who desire a part-time work schedule. All openings for regularly scheduled full- and part-time Care Technicians are filled exclusively by on-call staff who have experience working at the Center. Opportunities to move into regular part- or full-time shifts arise frequently.
BEFORE APPLYING FOR THIS POSITION, PLEASE CAREFULLY READ THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS AND ENSURE YOU ARE ABLE TO FILL THIS POSITION.
Benefits of working at Center for Change:
Center for Change is respected for its programs, progressive outlook, and for its major contributions in research and treatment in the field of eating disorders. Care Techs benefit from the opportunity to work side by side with a team of professionals, including physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, marriage & family therapists, nurses, dietitians, recreation therapists, and other professionals who have extensive experience treating eating disorders in specialty inpatient and outpatient programs. Staff at the Center find it a rewarding experience to work in a warm and friendly setting where they have an opportunity to make a genuine difference in a patient's recovery.
Responsibilities:
Care Techs work closely with patients as they progress through the treatment programs at the Center. They provide daily support and assistance with activities of daily living and are expected to mentor healthy attitudes and behaviors. Care Techs eat meals with the patients and join them in a variety of experiential therapies such as recreation therapy, movement therapies suchas Yoga and Nia, art therapy, music therapy, and other group therapies such as body-image and 12-step. Care Techs work directly with patients in goal setting and follow-up, and are responsible to enforce program rules.
Training:
The Center places a high priority on training staff to provide the highest quality of care. Care Techs are required to participate in 55 - 60 hours of intensive training during the first two weeks of employment. This process involves training specific to each of the various shifts — daytime, evening, and graveyard. In addition, all direct-care staff are required to participate in monthly in-service training which takes place from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on the second pay day of the month (3rd or 4th Wednesday of the month).
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Two years college-level education, preferably in the social sciences, or 2 years experience working in the mental health field.
- Care Techs are required to transport patients using company vehicles. To qualify under the Center's insurance carrier, the Care Tech

- must have a valid Utah driver license or obtain one within 30 days of hire; and
- must have a clean driving record (i.e., no more than 1 speeding ticket in the last 3 years, and no accidents in the last 3 years)
- Consistency in scheduling is important in a healthcare environment. Consequently, on-call staff are required to designate one week day plus alternating Saturdays and Sundays each week. They are on call anytime during the designated days. Weekend shifts are a routine part of on-call work. On-call staff work, on average, every other Sunday. Regular shifts are from 5:45 am to 6:15 pm; 7:00 am to 3:00 pm; 3:00 pm to 11:00 pm; 5:45 pm to 12:00 am; and 5:45 pm to 6:15 am. On occasion shifts may be split. In addition on-call staff are often required to work holidays. An increased rate of pay applies to evening, graveyard, weekend, and holiday hours worked.
- Staff eat meals along with the patients. The Center has chefs and dietitians who ensure that a wide variety of foods are served in nutritious and appetizing meals. Because the Center specializes in the treatment of eating disorders it is important that staff mentor healthy attitudes and behaviors about food. For this reason staff are required to eat appropriate portions of everything served with the meal. This includes all food groups: meats, poultry, fish, fruits, dairy products, etc.
Salary:
Base starting salary is $9.25 / hour to $9.75 / hour with a related Bachelors Degree.
