Foundation for Change Receives $15,000 Gift from Impact Lift-Off Class #127 to Increase Awareness and Education for Eating Disorders
November 2, 1998, Orem, Utah-Foundation For Change, a non-profit, charitable foundation devoted to eating disorder awareness and education, today received a gift of $15,000 from the Impact Training Lift-Off Class #127 of the Harmony Institute. The gift is the result of an intensive one-week fundraising effort conducted by the 55 graduates of Lift-Off #127.
T.O. Paul Harper, Ph.D., president of Foundation for Change, accepted the check on behalf of the Foundation from Blake Ostler, chairman of Lift-Off #127.
"This is a great day for the Foundation and for the many women who this donation will help," said Dr. Harper. "If we can prevent one young women from suffering the debilitating and sometimes deadly consequences of eating disorders, then the enormous effort behind this fundraising effort will all be worth it. Our sincere thanks go out to every person who contributed in any way to making this gift a reality."
All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to assist the Foundation in its mission to raise awareness and to educate people in Utah and throughout the nation to the growing threat of eating disorders. Recent estimates suggest that as many as 40,000 women in Utah alone suffer with dangerously unhealthy attitudes about food and eating.
To increase awareness of the heightened risk of eating disorders during the holiday season, the Foundation is sponsoring an "Angels of Hope" tree during the upcoming Festival of Trees celebration, (Dec. 2-5, at the Salt Palace Exhibition Hall). The tree represents the hope for recovery that is available to women with anorexia, bulimia and other related eating disorders. Scrolls containing "affirmations of hope" from women who are recovering from eating disorders will accompany the angel figures that adorn the tree.
Concerned individuals and corporations are encouraged to support the "Angels of Hope" tree by making a tax-deductible donation to Foundation for Change, 1790 North State Street, Orem, Utah 84057, or by calling (801) 224-8277.
