How do we, in recovery, continue to figure out what WE want? I get easily paralyzed, it seems, at figuring out what I want and then feeling confident in the decision I make. The negative mind and ruminating doubts can flood my mind and heart when I am trying to decide what I want and then sticking to it. Anyone have any thoughts?

It involves being willing to take risks. I think eating disordered individuals have a propensity to want to know the outcome before the effort. We want guaranteed results. In making decisions, we are fearful of making a mistake, so we become paralyzed.
Often times, if the answer is not clear (which it rarely is for me), I pick a path and follow it. If I fall on my face, I pick myself up (or ask someone to help me up) and make a different choice. "Feel the fear and do it anyway!" Honestly, that's what it takes. Take a risk! |
