There are a lot of options between struggling and re-admission, so take it slow. Are you seeing a therapist and dietitian? If not, that is where I would start. If you are, then bring this up with them -- and trust their opinion! Sometimes it just seems easier to take the route of being sick and having someone take care of us (as they do soooo well at CFC!), but that's not reality and it's not truly learning how to live life.
In addition to therapy and dietitian services, take advantage of whatever outpatient resources are available -- a local 12-step group, DBT, process group, a college or church eating disorders group -- whatever you can find. I couldn't have done it without all my aftercare.
Those are options to hopefully keep you from re-admission. For more day to day coping, especially through the holidays, go to the list on the left and click on articles. Scroll down and read (and print) articles you find helpful. I especially recommend the one on getting through the holidays by Dr. Hardman. Excellent resource! Also, if you haven't read these, don't miss, "Recovery: A Matter of the Heart" also by Doc Hardman, "Listening to Your Heart" by Dr. Hardman, and the one on spirituality by both Docs Hardman and Barrett.
Hang in there! Struggles, lapses, ups and downs are normal in recovery. This is not perfection! But don't throw in the towel too quickly. You are stronger than you feel! Good luck, and keep posting. Let us know how you are doing. |
